Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are
Clever Cupboard ("we", "us", "our") is a personal recipe management app operated by Kneeko Co. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Questions? Contact us at legal@clever-cupboard.com.
2. What We Collect
We collect only what's necessary to run the app:
- Email address — used to create and manage your account.
- Display name, username, and bio — optional profile information you choose to provide.
- Recipes you save — stored securely so you can access them across devices.
- Shopping list and calendar data — synced across your devices.
- Suggestions and feedback — if you choose to submit them.
- Usage data — basic analytics to understand how the app is used (no personal identifiers).
3. What We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your payment information.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not access your camera roll beyond photos you explicitly share with us.
- We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.
- We do not serve ads or share your information with advertisers.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use your data solely to provide and improve Clever Cupboard:
- To create and manage your account.
- To store and sync your recipes, shopping lists, and calendar across devices.
- To power AI features like recipe import and ingredient scoring.
- To display your profile in the Community section if you choose to share recipes.
- To read and act on suggestions you submit.
- To send transactional emails (e.g. account confirmation, password reset).
5. AI Features
Clever Cupboard uses AI (powered by Anthropic's Claude) to help import recipes from photos and URLs, scan fridge or pantry photos, read grocery receipts, score ingredient accessibility, and paraphrase recipe instructions. When you use these features, relevant content (such as a recipe photo, fridge photo, receipt image, or URL) is sent to our AI provider to process your request.
We show an in-app notice before image-based AI scans so you know those images leave your device for cloud processing.
We do not use your recipe data to train AI models.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following trusted third-party services to operate the app:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage (supabase.com).
- Anthropic — AI processing for recipe import and ingredient features (anthropic.com).
- Kroger — optional grocery cart integration, used only with your explicit permission (kroger.com).
- Vercel — web hosting (vercel.com).
- ImprovMX — email forwarding for support inquiries (improvmx.com).
Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We only share data with them as necessary to provide the features of the app.
7. Community Sharing
If you choose to share a recipe publicly, your recipe content will be visible to other Clever Cupboard users. Your email address is never shown publicly. Your display name or username may be shown alongside shared recipes if you have set one.
You can make a recipe private again at any time by toggling off the "Share to Community" option in the recipe edit screen.
8. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which uses industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. We use Row Level Security (RLS) to ensure users can only access their own data.
No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We take reasonable measures to protect your data but cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be removed within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal reasons.
10. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data.
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent for data processing at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at legal@clever-cupboard.com.
11. Children's Privacy
Clever Cupboard is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
